Most frequent causes of Tachycardia
Sinus tachycardia is most commonly seen as a normal response to physiological stress:
- Inadequate analgesia/sedation
- Abnormal blood gases
- Hypovolemia
- Hypotension
- Medications such as atropine, epinephrine
- Fever
- Hypoglycemia
Tachycardia associated with hypotension has a completely different set of causes and treatments than tachycardia associated with hypertension. Therefore before treating tachycardia it is essential to recheck the blood pressure. |
